My Lockbox

Those who must share the use of a computer with others may be concerned about keeping their files private. My Lockbox provides a convenient way to keep one's files off limits to other users of a computer. This application was developed by FSPro Labs, and the most recent version is the 3.2 version launched in July 2012. Once My Lockbox is installed, a folder that the user wants to be locked is chosen as a destination folder. A password and a reminder question are given to secure this destination folder. After this, the user must restart the machine. After the restart, there will be a new Lockbox icon that comes up, which will not be accessible without the password.

Once My Lockbox has been installed, the user of the application can save files in the destination folders in the same way that files are saved in any other folder. However, the file will disappear when the folder is "locked".

While My Lockbox can protect file access, it does not provide high-level security, because it does not encrypt files. Typical users of a desktop computer will not be able to easily bypass the security offered by My Lockbox. However, security against expert hackers or highly skilled computer technicians requires encryption and higher-level security features than My Lockbox offers.

My Lockbox offers a variety of different appearance options in addition to configuration tools. This makes it so that the application can fit well on a user's desktop. It's quick to set up the application, and once it is in place, documents will not get lost as long as the user remembers his or her password.
